Also remember that Missouri law states that if any person with the responsibility for the care of children has reasonable cause to suspect that a child has been or may be subjected to abuse or neglect or observes a child being subjected to conditions or circumstances which would reasonably result in abuse or neglect, that person shall immediately report to the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division. Mandated reporters include Girl Scout volunteers and staff.

Welcome to Fall 2026 Lead & Learn ! As we begin another exciting Girl Scout year, I want to take a moment to recognize and thank you for the time, energy, and heart you bring to Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. Volunteers are at the center of everything we do. Because of you, Girl Scouts have opportunities to discover who they are, build new skills, try something new, and grow into confident leaders. We are excited to share this year’s Lead & Learn course catalog with you. Our Adult Education team is committed to making learning accessible, meaningful, and supportive, whether you are just beginning your volunteer journey or looking for your next opportunity to grow. More Opportunities, More Places to Learn This year, we are excited to continue expanding Adult Education opportunities throughout Missouri. We are working to bring more training opportunities to both rural and urban communities, making it easier for volunteers to access the courses, certifications, and skills they need most, closer to where they live and serve. Our goal is to meet you where you are and provide learning opportunities that are practical, welcoming, and relevant to your Girl Scout experience. If there is a course you would love to see, a certification you want to pursue, a topic you think we should offer, or a location that would make training more accessible, please tell us! A New Adult Education Incentive Program We are also excited to launch a new Adult Education incentive program this year. This initiative will give us an opportunity to recognize and celebrate volunteers who invest in their own learning and development.

Lead & Learn Quick Start
Two paths. One place to begin. Lead & Learn is a volunteer’s guide to training, certifications, and support at Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. Volunteers do not need to learn everything at once. They can start with the path that fits them best and move forward at their own pace.
New to Girl Scouts? Welcome! Whether a volunteer is a brand-new troop leader or supporting Girl Scouts for the first time, training is designed to help them feel confident, prepared, and supported from day one. Begin in gsLearn (see pg. 6), where all required and optional training lives. Most leaders start with the New Troop Leader Learning Path, which walks them through troop basics, safety requirements, finances, planning meetings, and age-appropriate programming. Some courses must be completed within a certain time period, while others can be completed as a volunteer’s schedule allows. All volunteers are required to complete child safety training, including Girl Scouts Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Training. These courses help ensure a safe and supportive experience for every Girl Scout. Once a volunteer is underway, they can explore additional courses that match their troop’s interests, whether that is outdoor adventures, badges and awards, or special programs.
Experienced Volunteers For volunteers who have been part of Girl Scouts before, Lead & Learn helps to expand their skills, renew certifications, or step into new leadership roles. In gsLearn, volunteers can quickly review their training history, register for in-person or blended learning courses, and find advanced learning paths. Many experienced volunteers focus on certifications such as outdoor skills, aquatics, archery, first aid, or mental wellness. Others explore leadership training for service teams, camp roles, or district support. As a reminder, all volunteers are required to complete child safety training, including Girl Scouts Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Training. If a volunteer is renewing a certification, be sure to check expiration dates and course prerequisites. Scholarships are available for select fee-based courses, and most training can be completed on a flexible schedule.
Stay Connected Training works best when communication is easy. Rallyhood is the central hub for Adult Education updates, calendars, resources, and course announcements. Joining Rallyhood ensures volunteers stay informed about new offerings, opportunities, and schedule changes throughout the year. Check out all the details on pg. 7.

Discover Our Courses
At Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, we are committed to making volunteer training as convenient and accessible as possible. Recognizing the value of our volunteers’ time, we fully embrace online learning as a cornerstone of our training approach. To better serve our volunteers, we have increased the number of blended-learning opportunities for skills-based courses. This format allows volunteers to complete the knowledge portion of a course online at their convenience while participating in hands-on skills practice during in-person sessions.
We also understand the importance of in-person training and programs in fostering a sense of community. These face-to-face experiences will continue to play a vital role in our adult learning curriculum.
Courses are grouped in the following categories: • Archery, pg. 14 • Badges, Awards, Patches and Programs, pg. 18 • Camp and Service Team Volunteers, pg. 24 • First Aid, CPR, and Mental Wellness, pg. 31 • Product Programs, pg. 35 • Technology and Platforms, pg. 39 • Troop Camping and Outdoor Skills, pg. 41 • Troop Management, pg. 47 Program Levels Following each course title is an indication of what Girl Scout program level (Daisy-Ambassador or All) would benefit from an adult completing that course. gsLearn Course Prefixes GSEM uses “548” as its unique identifier in gsLearn for courses and learning paths created by our council. “GSUSA” stands for Girl Scouts of the USA, our national organization, and is used for classes and learning paths created by GSUSA for use by councils across the country. In the course listings in Lead & Learn , these prefixes are omitted for clarity. Courses and learning paths created by GSUSA are noted with (GSUSA) at the end of the course title. Turn to pg. 6 for more information on gsLearn.
Scholarships Scholarships are available to help adult volunteers access Adult Education courses. If cost is a barrier, select Financial Aid during registration to receive scholarship assistance for courses under $100. For courses $100 or more, a Scholarship Application is required. Train Anywhere, Anytime with gsLearn
gsLearn is the online learning platform where volunteers access training, register for courses, and track completed certifications. Nearly every course in Lead & Learn begins in gsLearn, whether it’s online, blended learning, or in person.
Volunteers use gsLearn to complete required safety training, explore learning paths, register for upcoming sessions, and review their training history at any time. Courses are designed to fit busy schedules, with many available on demand. Registration works a little differently depending on the course type. Online courses are available immediately, while in-person and blended-learning courses require registration. Payment for most courses with fees is handled through My Events. Each course listing clearly explains what steps are required.

Mandatory Volunteer Training
Protecting the emotional and physical safety and well-being of every Girl Scout is our shared top priority. Volunteers play an essential role in ensuring Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri remains a safe and supportive place for all girls. The purpose of this required training is to equip volunteers with the knowledge to recognize signs of child abuse or neglect, understand our responsibilities as mandated reporters, and apply Girl Scout safety policies and best practices to all activities. All volunteers are required to complete the following courses within 60 days of assignment in gsLearn: • Girl Scouts Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention • Course completion is required annually. • Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Training • Course completion is required every two years.

Check Out These Courses!
Lead & Learn offers a variety of valuable courses for members to build confidence, strengthen skills, and make the most of their Girl Scout volunteer experience. Whether volunteers are just beginning their journey, looking for a refresh on the Girl Scout essentials, or searching for new ideas to enhance troop meetings and activities, these courses are designed to support members every step of the way. Explore the featured courses in this edition and discover new ways to inspire Girl Scouts, grow as a leader, and create meaningful experiences.
New Courses GSUSA created two new online courses available in gsLearn this fall. Turn to pg. 51 to see full details and open each course. Behavior Management for Girl Scouts In this 35-minute course, learn proactive, inclusive strategies for behavior management at each program level that build cooperation and confidence, along with practical tips for navigating challenging behaviors in safe, supportive ways. Girl Scout Uniform Basics This 20-minute course enables volunteers to select a Girl Scout program level—Daisy through Ambassador—and receive clear, step-by-step uniform guidance for that age group. Volunteers will receive a general overview of the badges, awards, pins, and patches available for each program level uniform, their exact placement on vests, sashes, or tunics, and purchasing guidance.
Youth Mental Health First Aid
Every Girl Scout deserves a trusted adult who is ready to listen, support, and help when it matters most. Youth Mental Health First Aid empowers Girl Scout volunteers, parents, and staff to recognize the signs of a mental health or substance use challenge, respond with compassion and confidence, and connect youth to the help they need. Through a nationally recognized curriculum developed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, this three-year certification course provides practical tools and early intervention strategies to support youth ages 12–18 during mental health challenges. Your knowledge could make a lasting difference in a young person’s life. Turn to pg. 34 for full course details and upcoming training dates.

Daisy Drop Box & Brownie Bundle
Being a Daisy and Brownie troop leader has never been easier with our Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Daisy Drop Box (grades K-1) and Brownie Bundle (grades 2-3) programs. When leaders register for these programs, a monthly troop meeting in a box will be delivered right to their door at no charge. Troop leaders will receive everything they need to confidently lead Girl Scouts in grades K-3 in troop meetings, no experience required! Check out an example of what is included in these boxes on the next page. These programs engage Girl Scouts through all Daisy petals and a variety of Daisy and Brownie badges across the four program pillars: STEM, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, and the Outdoors. They introduce Daisies and Brownies to a progression of girl-led experiences in the troop meetings.

Archery
Picture this: A Girl Scout places an arrow onto a bow, hooks their fingers around the string, draws it back, aims at the target and releases! Bullseye! Archery is an exciting sport that takes strength and focus. Volunteers can challenge themselves as they build their archery skills and share their knowledge with others. This section describes the USA Archery Level 1 and Level 2 Instructor courses and how to renew them, and outlines the USA Archery procedures for course registration. Certification for Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s archery program is provided through USA Archery. USA Archery offers Level 1 and Level 2 Instructor courses in a blended-learning format. Volunteers complete the knowledge portion of the course on the USA Archery website prior to completing the in-person skills session at a GSEM archery range on one of our camp properties. Registration for USA Archery Level 1 or Level 2 Registering for and completing a USA Archery course through GSEM is a multi-step process: 1. Register for an in-person practical skills session in gsLearn and receive detailed instructions for navigating the USA Archery website 2. Create a USA Archery account on the USA Archery website, then pay for and complete the USA Archery Instructor certification online course and exam 3. Go to the USA Archery website and register for the in-person skills session after passing the online exam. This will be the same session date already registered for in gsLearn 4. Complete the in-person skills session held at one of our camp properties USA Archery Level 1 or Level 2 Instructor Recertification Certifications that have not expired may recertify via USA Archery’s online refresher course. Recertification courses are listed separately in the Lead & Learn course catalog and in gsLearn.

USA Archery Level 1 Instructor
Level: Brownie-Ambassador
This course is required for those who wish to teach beginning archery skills to Brownies through Ambassadors, on or off GSEM property. It consists of a three-to-four-hour online portion found on the USA Archery website, and a four-hour in-person skills session at one of our GSEM camps. Participants learn about range safety and setup, the steps of shooting, equipment use and repair, and how to teach beginner-level students. This certification is valid for three years and is renewable online through USA Archery via the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Recertification course in gsLearn. Girl Scouts 16 years and older are welcome to participate. After registering for the course in gsLearn, participants will receive detailed instructions via email on navigating the USA Archery website, paying the $40 fee, and completing the online portion of the course. If participants do not receive these instructions immediately after registering in gsLearn, please contact Adult Education at adulteducation@girlscoutsem.org .

USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Recertification
Level: Brownie-Ambassador
This course is for those who have a current USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certification and wish to recertify online. The recertification course in gsLearn contains detailed instructions for navigating the USA Archery website, paying the $40 fee and completing the self-paced, one-hour online refresher only available on the USA Archery website. After receiving a new completion certificate from USA Archery, it must be uploaded to the recertification course in gsLearn to receive credit for completion. Contact Adult Education at adulteducation@girlscoutsem.org with questions, as this recertification process is newer and may be unfamiliar. Those with an expired USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certification are not eligible to recertify using the online only refresher through USA Archery. They must instead complete the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor blended learning course.

USA Archery Level 2 Instructor
Level: Brownie-Ambassador
This course is for those who wish to serve as the lead instructor for long-term archery programs or become an archery instructor trainer for GSEM. It is more rigorous than the Level 1 course and comes with additional costs and obligations. It introduces students to the National Training System (NTS) Steps of Shooting for recurve and compound bows, equipment and accessory setup, athlete development, and events. The six-to-seven-hour online portion found on the USA Archery website and the eight-hour in-person skills session at a GSEM camp combine the Level 1 course materials with more advanced knowledge and skills. This means that USA Archery Level 1 Instructor certification is NOT a prerequisite for the Level 2 course.
This certification is valid for three years and is renewable online through USA Archery via the USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Recertification course in gsLearn. Girl Scouts 18 years and older are welcome to participate.
To receive a Level 2 certification, participants must be a registered member of USA Archery or National Field Archery Association, submit to a background screening, and complete the U.S. Center for SafeSport training on the USA Archery website. After registering for the course in gsLearn, participants will receive detailed instructions via email on navigating the USA Archery website, paying the $50 online course fee and $35 background screening fee, and completing the online portion of the course. If participants do not receive these instructions immediately after registering in gsLearn, please contact Adult Education at adulteducation@girlscoutsem.org .
Additional USA Archery online coursework and Adult Education approval are required to become a USA Archery instructor trainer for GSEM.

USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Recertification
Level: Brownie-Ambassador
This course is for those who have a current USA Archery Level 2 Instructor certification and wish to recertify online. The recertification course in gsLearn contains detailed instructions for navigating the USA Archery website, paying the $50 fee and completing the self-paced, 75-minute online refresher only available on the USA Archery website. After receiving a new completion certificate from USA Archery, it must be uploaded to the recertification course in gsLearn to receive credit for completion. Contact Adult Education at adulteducation@girlscoutsem.org with questions, as this recertification process is newer and may be unfamiliar. Those with an expired USA Archery Level 2 Instructor certification are not eligible to recertify using the online only refresher through USA Archery. They must instead complete the USA Archery Level 2 Instructor blended learning course.

Slingshot Instructor Training
Level: All
Learn how to bring the fun of slingshots to Girl Scouts in this two-hour, in-person course. Because slingshot activities at GSEM camps use the same ranges and share the same setup and safety principles as archery, participants must have a current USA Archery Level 1 or Level 2 Instructor certification to take this course and lead a slingshot activity at our camps. This course is renewable every three years. Girl Scouts 16 years and older are welcome to participate.

Badges, Awards, Patches and Programs
What will Girl Scouts do next? Sleep under the stars? Design an app? Plant a community garden? As a Girl Scout, there are hundreds of ways to discover something new or take their current passion to the next level. Badges, Highest Awards, and patches show the world their accomplishments. This section includes helpful courses to streamline the latest badge and patch programs, and Girl Scouts Highest Awards, so volunteers can better support girls.
Daisy Petal Badges Learning Path (GSUSA)
Level: Daisy
This learning path is a fun and fast introduction to the Daisy Petal Badges, designed to thoughtfully guide Daisy Girl Scouts, their parents, and volunteers through the first two years of Girl Scouting. Each of the ten courses in this learning path is a short exploration of each Petal Badge, which helps Daisies understand the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Courses provide ideas for hands-on, age-appropriate activities and for using the unique Girl Scout Leadership Experience framework.

Girl Scout Astronomy Club Training Learning Path (GSUSA)

This two-hour, three-course learning path gives volunteers and older Girl Scouts a solid foundation to plan and manage an astronomy club, including how to build a development plan and curriculum, how to lead activities for Girl Scouts of all ages, and best practices for club outreach, meetings and events.

In this ten-minute course, volunteers will learn about the Girl Scout Tree Promise and join our national effort to plant five million trees in five years. Girl Scouts can plant, protect, or honor trees on their own or with their troops, families, and communities.

Girl Scout Uniform Basics (GSUSA)

This 20-minute course enables volunteers to select a Girl Scout program level—Daisy through Ambassador— and receive clear, step-by-step uniform guidance for that age group. Volunteers will receive a general overview of the badges, awards, pins, and patches available for each program level uniform, their exact placement on vests, sashes, or tunics, and purchasing guidance.

The Mental Wellness Patch Program: Why It Matters and How to Implement It (GSUSA) Level: Junior-Ambassador
In this 20-minute course, volunteers learn best practices for holding a Mental Wellness Patch Program. This level-specific program aims to give Junior through Ambassador Girl Scouts the tools and support they need to better understand and care for their mental health. It is highly recommended that volunteers first complete the Mental Wellness 101 and Delivering Inclusive Program courses before starting this one to get the most out of the Mental Wellness Patch Program.

Gold Award Committee Coaches Information Session

GSEM is currently seeking coaches to join the Gold Award Committee, which consists of adult volunteers who support Girl Scouts with their Gold Award experience. These coaches will work one-on-one with a Girl Scout to develop a robust project proposal, help with challenges during the project implementation, and provide guidance for the final report upon project completion.

How to Support a Gold Award Girl Scout

Camp Supervisor Training

This weekend-long, in-person course is for volunteers who wish to become a camp supervisor at any GSEM camp. Participants learn to communicate effectively with council staff and campers, coordinate camp program activities, and follow GSEM policies and procedures. After completing this course, participants are required to apprentice with an experienced camp supervisor.
Prerequisites: Current Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification and Troop Camp Certification through GSEM. Bring proof of certifications to the course.

Girl Scout Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention

Mandatory for All Active Volunteers
Child abuse and neglect are difficult subjects to think about, yet the prevention of abuse is a topic Girl Scouts takes very seriously. This course prepares volunteers who supervise Girl Scouts to recognize, respond to, and report concerns of child abuse and neglect. Volunteers will be empowered to prevent abuse by learning Girl Scout recommended practices, policies, and procedures—proactive measures designed to prevent abusers from interacting with Girl Scouts and foster a safe space for children to thrive.
This course is mandatory for all active GSEM volunteers.

Lifeguard In-Service Training

This course is required annually for volunteers and staff certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding who wish to lifeguard at GSEM camps. The course consists of a quiz that will require knowledge of the policies, procedures, and emergency action plans for council-owned pools and lakes. See prerequisites to prepare for the course.
Prerequisites: Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification and thoroughly reading the GSEM Waterfront and Pool Manuals.

Looker Onboarding for Service Unit Volunteers (GSUSA)
Level: All
Looker is the business intelligence platform used by councils nationwide. With it, approved service team volunteers can explore, visualize, and analyze data from their districts or neighborhoods. In this course, volunteers learn what Looker is, how to navigate the platform, and how to interact with Looker reports. Service team volunteers are expected to complete this onboarding course when they first receive access to Looker.

Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Training

Mandatory for All Active Volunteers
Girl Scout volunteers and staff are considered mandated reporters in Missouri. This 2.5-hour course, provided by Missouri Network Against Child Abuse, explores how adults can identify and report child abuse and neglect to the Children’s Division of the Missouri Department of Social Services. A no-cost registration with Missouri Network Against Child Abuse is required to access their course. Upload the completion certificate provided by Missouri Network Against Child Abuse to this course in gsLearn to receive credit for completion.
This course is mandatory for all active GSEM volunteers.
