Small Craft Safety: Moving Water Learning Path

Level: Cadette-Ambassador

Learning Path Description : This learning path contains all the courses required to be trained in Small Craft Safety: Moving Water. Completing this learning path allows volunteers to be the primary or secondary trained personnel required to supervise troop canoe outings on Class I or Class I/II rivers. Some courses in this learning path are blended learning and contain online and in-person components, while others are online only. Note that Small Craft Safety: Canoeing is part of this learning path. Each course within the learning path (online or in person) is individually renewable every three years.

Small Craft Safety: Moving Water

Level: Cadette-Ambassador

Course Description : This blended-learning course consists of online modules and an in-person skills session. This course teaches volunteers how to navigate a Class I or Class I/II river and practice moving water rescue skills and paddling strokes. Hands-on skills will be practiced during a five-mile river float at Blue Springs Ranch. Please note that the skills session requires strenuous physical activity on moving water while wearing a life jacket. Practicing these skills may result in minor scratches or bruises.

Completing Small Craft Safety: Canoeing is required before attending the Moving Water in-person skills session.

Course Registration : This course may only be accessed via the Small Craft Safety: Moving Water learning path. Register for the in-person portion of this course by opening the course within the learning path in gsLearn, selecting Start This Course, and following the direct link to gsEvents for the desired date, or by searching in gsEvents. The accompanying online modules are available in gsLearn within the course itself.
