Wilderness and Remote First Aid

Level: All

Course Description: This certification provides individuals with a foundation of first aid skills to respond to emergencies and provide care at activity locations without immediate emergency medical response (EMS). An activity’s first aider is required to have this certification when EMS would take more than 30 minutes to arrive at a location. Participants must attend both days of this two-day course and complete all skills assessments. Some skills demonstrations may require strenuous physical activity. This certification is valid for two years. Girl Scouts 16 years and older are welcome to participate. Scholarships are available.

Prerequisite: Current American Red Cross CPR/AED certification

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Level: All

Course Description: Given the importance of mental wellbeing in our lives and the prevalence of mental health and substance abuse challenges in youth today, we are offering volunteers the opportunity to become Youth Mental Health First Aiders. The blended-learning course consists of a two-hour self-paced online course and a five and a half-hour in-person learning session. This three-year certification uses a nationally recognized curriculum developed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing to teach adults to assist youth aged 12-18 who are experiencing a mental health or substance misuse challenge. Volunteers won’t want to miss this powerful and highly relevant course. Online learning assignments must be completed in full before attending the in-person session (no exceptions).
