Frequently Asked Questions

How can someone join Girl Scouts?

Paper registration forms are still accepted for those that prefer. However, we strongly recommend online registration at girlscoutsem.org/join for a faster processing.

What technology do I need to prepare for my Recruitment Events?

It is recommended attendees use their phones to register. Check with the staff at the location ahead of time for guest Wi-Fi information.

PRO TIP : Print off and share the QR Codes for each troop that has openings.

PRO TIP : Try to have a larger device on hand to complete the online registration form.

Do all girls have to be assigned to a troop? What do you do when you have an individual girl and need to meet her needs? You can absolutely join Girl Scouts by yourself. This type of membership is known as an Individually Registered Member (IRM). Individually registered members are also known as Juliettes, named after our founder, Juliette Gordon Low. Juliettes choose how to participate based on their schedule and interests. For questions or to learn more about Juliettes, please contact Amber Allen, Membership Manager, at aallen@girlscoutsem.org .

How do you manage bilingual requests?

Please gather their contact information and give it to your CEM to follow-up with the request.

What if I don’t know the answer to a parent’s question?

It’s okay! Politely say, “That’s a great question—let me find out for you.” You can collect their contact information for follow-up. Never guess—it’s better to follow up than give incorrect information.

How do I talk about Girl Scouts if I’m not a troop leader?

You don’t need to know everything—just speak from experience! Share why you support the program, what you’ve seen girls gain (confidence, friendships, skills), and encourage families to explore it. Use the materials and talking points provided to help guide your conversations.

What should I wear if volunteering for a Girl Scout recruitment event?

Volunteers should dress neatly and professionally, wearing a Girl Scout shirt or branded apparel if available, paired with casual or business-casual pants. Comfortable shoes are recommended, and name tags should be worn if provided.
