2022 Camp Adventure Guide 2

This adventure starts with you. Welcome to the 2022 Camp Adventure Guide ! At Girl Scout Camp, girls follow their own convictions, take the lead in their own stories and explore all the extraordinary things they are capable of. With programs in the outdoors ranging from equestrian to robotics, and everything in between, girls have the space and support they need to grow, so they can see themselves howwe’ve always seen them. Bright. Brave. Adventurous.

When your Girl Scout joins us for camp this summer, our focus is completely on her. Camp life is unique fromhome and school—here she will hone positive characteristics that are hard to develop anywhere else. When girls are allowed time to focus on themselves and foster authentic and organic relationships with peers and adult role models, it is easier for girls to move out of their comfort zones and advance important competencies they need to be successful adults, including a sense of self. The majority of Girl Scout camp alums say their camp experience was central to the development of positive values, challenge-seeking skills, healthy relationships and leadership abilities—all components of the Girl Scout Camp experience! New this year, many of our Resident Camps will offer badge-earning opportunities so girls can further deepen their skill-building and discovery this summer. Badge opportunities are noted in green throughout the publication! Health and safety will always be our top priority at camp, and our 2022 protocols will continue to be based on the most recent guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), as well as local health authorities. As needed, we will update our Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri COVID-19 Response Guidelines, based on advisories for COVID-19 mitigation. To review our current guidelines, please visit girlscoutsem.org/covid19 .

Mark your calendars—registration opens on Jan. 19, 2022 . We can’t wait to adventure together with you this summer!

Yours in Girl Scouting.

2022 Camp Adventure Guide 4

You’re already the best version of yourself. Sometimes you just need the view from the top of a hill, a paddle on a lake or a night camping under a sky full of stars to see it for yourself.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation shows safety is our top priority. Parents and guardians can rest easy knowing their Girl Scout is in good hands while she attends our camps.

Experience the outdoors as a Girl Scout and do more. Four Ways Girl Scouts Builds Leaders in the Outdoors Since 1912, girls have explored and strengthened their outdoor skills and commitment to environmental stewardship through Girl Scouting. Guided by supportive adults and peers, Girl Scouts discover the wonders of nature, experience the thrill of adventure, and challenge themselves and one another to reach new heights. These experiences hone their outdoor and leadership skills, inspire them to take action to protect the environment, and reinforce friendships that last a lifetime. When girls participate in Girl Scouts’ outdoor programming, they benefit in important ways: Outdoor Competence Girls engage safely and responsibly in a range of outdoor activities like practicing Leave No Trace principles and knowing what to bring to be prepared in the outdoors. Outdoor Confidence Girls have confidence in their abilities and are willing to try new and challenging outdoor activities. Outdoor Interest Girls have a love of nature and an interest in the natural world. Environmental Stewardship Girls understand how their behaviors impact the environment and what they can do to protect our natural resources.

Led by volunteers throughout our Council, Day Camps help girls explore their unique communities at a variety of sites, including state and local parks, community centers and Girl Scout camps.

Volunteer All Day Camps are planned and staffed by volunteers—consider serving in a volunteer role this summer! Waitlist Capacities are based on the number of volunteers currently committed at each camp to maintain the appropriate adult-to-girl ratio and current COVID-19 guidelines. Spots open and girls are moved off the waitlist as additional volunteers are secured. Girls on the waitlist are subject to the same refund policy as those who have been accepted into the program. Refunds A written request must be provided to the Answer Center two weeks prior to the start of the program to receive a refund. No refunds will be given if a camp session is dismissed early or begins late due to unforeseen extreme weather conditions. Leadership Camps

Resident Camp leadership programs are designed for campers ages 15 and up. At the start of these programs, knowledgeable staff are there to guide the girls through their journey of learning, challenge and growth. Toward the end of the program, camp staff move into supporting roles as campers step into leadership roles, put their skills to practice and choose their path (at camp and in life). The campers in the leadership programs help staff set the tone in the camp environment and often serve as role models for the younger campers, playing a major role in the mentoring magic that happens at camp. Whether they are leading a hike, teaching horsemanship skills or building a campfire, the Leadership Experience and Practice (L.E.A.P.) campers are developing skills that will last a lifetime and exemplifying what being a Girl Scout is all about.
