Spring 2026 Lead & Learn
First Aid, CPR and Mental Wellness
Emergencies require prompt action and quick judgment to ensure the safety of our members. Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri offers first aid, CPR and mental wellness courses through the American Red Cross, the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, and GSUSA.
At least one qualified general first aider with Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification must accompany a troop during certain activities. Consult Safety Activity Checkpoints to determine whether a first aider is required for a troop activity. Adult volunteers may complete this course through the American Red Cross (ARC) or another council approved agency, such as the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI). ARC will provide participants with free access to the First Aid/CPR/AED Participant eBook upon course completion. Some courses offered by ARC, AHA, or ASHI provide separate certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED. All three are required to be Girl Scout general first aiders. There must be an in-person skills assessment component (no online-only courses).
The following items will be available for purchase at all GSEM American Red Cross courses:
• First Aid/CPR/AED Participant Manual—$13.95 • Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Ready Reference Skill Cards—$4.39 • Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Ready Reference Skill Cards—$4.39 • CPR keychain with breathing barrier and gloves—$5.50 ARC has updated its First Aid/CPR/AED program to reflect the most recent scientific advances. These updates impact course content, learning materials, and pricing. Effective May 2026, GSEM will incorporate these updates and will not offer the review session option for two years. During this two year hiatus, those wishing to recertify must do so by completing the blended-learning session option.
