Spring 2023 Lead & Learn

First Aid, CPR and Mental Wellness

Emergencies require prompt action and quick judgment to ensure the safety of our members. Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri offers First Aid, CPR and Mental Wellness courses through the American Red Cross and the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.

A qualified general first aider with an Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification must accompany the troop when they participate in certain activities. Check Safety Activity Checkpoints to see if a first aider is required for your troop activity. We recommend at least one adult volunteer per troop complete Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/ AED training. Adult volunteers acting as general first aiders at Girl Scout activities must be certified to meet Girl Scout safety standards. Adult volunteers may take this course through the American Red Cross or other council-approved agency such as the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI).

Some courses offered by ARC, AHA or ASHI have separate certifications for First Aid, CPR, and AED. All are required to be a Girl Scout first aider. The following items will be available for purchase at all GSEM American Red Cross courses. • Adult or Pediatric First Aid, CPR/AED Ready Reference Skill Cards - $4 • CPR keychain with face shield and gloves - $4.75
