BasicWater Rescue: All Course Description: Volunteers who complete this course may serve as one of the qualified personnel required to assist in opening a lake at any of our camp properties. In this course you will learn how to prevent, recognize, and respond to many types of aquatic emergencies, as well as self-rescue and non-swimming rescues for aquatic emergencies. You will also be introduced to the GSEMWaterfront Manual and Emergency Action Plan, which outlines policies and procedures specific to GSEM. Prerequisite: Complete the online portion of this blended-learning course in gsLearn. Proof of completion of the online portion must be shown at the in-person skills session in order to participate. At the in-person skills session, you will be required to demonstrate the following skills in a swimming pool at one of our camp properties. • The HELP and Huddle positions • Two reaching assists • Throwing assists using two different pieces of equipment • Wading assist, walking assist, and beach drag • Two ways to stabilize a victim’s head, neck, and back in the water.
