Our Promise, May 2022

Our Promise May 2022

Welcome to a new edition of Our Promise ! As we look forward to the changing seasons and warmer weather, I am pleased to share with you, our valued community supporters, news and updates from Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri and what lies ahead in the coming months. This spring marks an incredibly exciting time for Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri as we have officially launched into the public phase of our $50 million comprehensive campaign, Her Future is Our Future. This will be the largest-ever investment in girl development in the eastern Missouri region and the largest philanthropic effort in our organization’s history. This unprecedented investment will ensure that each girl in the eastern Missouri region has an opportunity to be the leader she wants to be, and the one the world needs her to be. The Her Future is Our Future Campaign, chaired by Jo Ann Taylor Kindle, chairperson of Enterprise Holdings Foundation, has secured more than $45 million to date. The campaign allows the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri to remain steadfast in its mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place, while

further developing its innovative programming, improving facilities and infrastructure, and creating a pipeline of future leaders in our community. With the guidance and partnership of the 28 influential female leaders that make up our campaign committee, we have made tremendous progress to date. The work they have done and continue to do for Girl Scouts will impact girls long into the future and truly serve as their legacy. Turn the page for more details on the campaign and to learn more about the transformational support it will provide our girls. I am honored by your continued support of Girl Scouts and thank you for helping our girls grow and develop into the dreamers and doers of tomorrow.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Memorial and Tribute Gifts Cynthia Heath Creates Lasting Impact for GSEM

Cynthia Heath, former board chair for Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, was honored at the organization’s annual meeting on Saturday, March 26 for her leadership and dedication to the girls in our region. Serving on the Girl Scout board of directors since 2012, and as board chair since 2016, Heath’s leadership has guided and strengthened Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri through pivotal times, including a global pandemic. During Heath’s tenure as board chair, Girl Scouts accomplished tremendous milestones including: • Designing, developing, and opening the Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center in Maryland Heights, MO., serving as hub for girls to experience innovative programming with expert collaborators • Celebrating the organization’s 100th anniversary with a historic bridging ceremony across the Eads Bridge with Girl Scouts from across eastern Missouri • Construction of a new state-of-the-art lodge, climbing wall and zipline at Camp Fiddlecreek in Labadie, MO. • Launching the largest comprehensive campaign in the region for girl youth development

In addition to the time and talent Heath invested in Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, she also has generously supported the

organization’s mission financially. In support of the Her Future is Our Future Campaign, Heath has made an endowed gift that will impact girls in eastern Missouri for generations to come. One of the programs made possible through Heath’s generosity will be a camp for girls with autism. In honor of Heath and her great-niece, the camp will be affectionally named Claire Bear Camp and will be offered for the first time in summer 2023. Heath earned her juris doctor from Washington University, followed by a 30 year career at Emerson. She was married to David Heath until his passing in 2006 and has two children, Ashley Heath Dietz and Heather Heath Ryan. Heath is also the proud grandmother of five grandchildren.

Impactful Programs In 2021, amid seismic shifts in technology and culture, Girl Scouts was an essential force in girls’ lives—serving as a vital experience that grows and expands alongside them. Working with community partners to offer Live From Girl Scouts and enhanced patch programs like Disability Awareness, girls connected with new role models, topics and ideas and worked on skill-building badge work.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion For more than 100 years Girl Scouts has stood for making the world a better place, and pledged to “help people at all times.” Those words carry great weight in 2021 especially as our organization took great strides to also make our world a more equitable place.
