GSEM Silver Award Project Catalog
Adopt a Community
Project Details: After learning about the food insecurities many children and individuals in need face, Cadettes from Troop 4952 decided to do their part for their community to earn their Girl Scout Silver Award. The Girl Scouts held several food drives throughout the year to address the basic need for food during the holiday season, but also for students in the Jennings School District who may be experiencing homelessness. During their first food drive, these young leaders collected 13 turkeys and approximately 400 cans of food. They brought the donated goods to the Jennings Community Cupboard to hand out during Thanksgiving. Next, they held a snack drive and collected more than 3,000 snacks that were donated to Northview Elementary School. Finally, they collected donations and created 21 Easter baskets to donate to the Community Cupboard and Hope House.
