GSEM Employee Handbook 2022-2023

HOLIDAYS/OFFICE CLOSURES Benefit eligible employees are eligible for the following paid holidays that occur (or are recognized) on an employee’s regularly scheduled workday: Martin Luther King Jr. Day Independence Day Friday after Thanksgiving Day Memorial Day Labor Day December 24 – January 2 Juneteenth Thanksgiving Day Floating Holiday When a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on the previous Friday. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed the following Monday. On occasion, there are Council-wide all-staff events that warrant office closure for the entire day. If that event does not last all day, you will be paid regular time bringing the hours to 37.5 for the week, not to exceed 7.5 total hours for the day. If an employee is scheduled to work more than 7.5 hours on the day an unexpected event occurs, such as inclement weather, the employee may be entitled to more than 7.5 hours pay for that day. Executive Leadership Team must approve any hours paid in excess of 7.5 hours for that day. Benefit eligible employees hired for less than 37.5 hours per week receive pro-rated holiday pay. Floating Holiday – One 7.5-hour day to be used at your discretion, based on whatever day you choose to observe during the calendar year. PAID TIME OFF (PTO) AND EXTENDED ILLNESS BANK (EIB) Paid Time Off (PTO) provides a mechanism for full-time eligible employees to accrue and use paid time for vacation, personal/family illness (short-term) and personal days. Recognized holidays are not part of the PTO program. PTO accrual begins upon hire or transfer into a benefit-eligible position. PTO is based on length of service and is accrued at the end of each week according to the following table: this example is based on a 37.5-hour workweek. STAFF
