GSEM Employee Handbook 2022-2023
GSEM reserves the right to suspend or cancel work-from-home arrangements at any time, in its sole discretion. GSEM will reimburse employees for pre-approved reasonable and necessary business expenses incurred by the employee while working from home (on the same terms and conditions it would when working from the office), but GSEM does not reimburse for office furnishings, internet service, telephone lines or other equipment that an employee maintains and uses for both personal and work purposes. GSEM will not duplicate resources between the central workplace and the alternate work location. All expenses must be pre-approved by the Director of Human Resources and the employee’s supervisor. Absent extenuating circumstances, the work-from-home arrangement is not an option if employees: • Are on a Performance Improvement Plan or written discipline. • Are incapable of performing the essential functions of their job with or without accommodation. • Are simultaneously responsible for the supervision of child(ren) at home during work hours* *Exception: Childcare is being provided by someone else in the home. *Exception: School-aged children are home due to a school closing/virtual-only learning situation. EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT AND ENGAGEMENT The Council recognizes and acknowledges its employees are its greatest asset and is committed to hiring the best people, developing their talent to the fullest extent possible, and rewarding the best performers. Because developing employees is not only about training, Council will deploy a wide range of learning and development opportunities in the workplace that will provide employees with the skills, knowledge, and expertise to successfully perform their roles and responsibilities and to position Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri as a world-class organization. Many of the training and development programs will be provided on campus, at All-Staff meetings, online webinars/seminars, and department-specific and individual online learning system, while others may involve travel and attendance. As a component of development and engagement, employees are encouraged to get involved in the many employee committees offered at the Council. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure involvement in committees or initiatives do not negatively impact their performance and/or ability to complete the responsibilities of their specified job role. Prior to participating in any GSEM committee, employees should communicate interest to their manager; managers reserve the right to approve or deny an employee’s request to take on the responsibilities of a committee member. As an employee, you are eligible for a 20% discount on regular priced shop merchandise. The discount is for personal use only. GIFT CARDS Gift cards may be distributed to employees at Council’s discretion for staff appreciation and holiday gifts. Distribution of gift cards to employees is considered taxable compensation according to IRS regulations, and the value will be reported on the employee’s FormW-2 at the end of the calendar year. It is the responsibility of the individual who issues the gift card to inform Payroll of the distribution. RETAIL SHOP
