GSEM Bronze Award Project Catalog
Nursing Home Love
Project Details: To earn their Girl Scout Bronze Award, Juniors from Troop 1593 added an activity room to the McClay Senior Care nursing home to promote social interaction among the residents. The Girl Scouts worked together to build and stain a wooden shelf that would improve the nursing home’s bingo and activity set-up. The Juniors then organized a craft and bingo night to introduce the residents to the new system. They also led a gardening activity with residents to make their outdoor sitting area a more welcoming place to relax and hang out. In addition to the new areas, the Juniors also made several blankets, sized to fit those using wheelchairs, and stored them on their newly built shelf. Finally, the troop made valentines for the residents and plan to continue providing crafts and visiting the residents in the future.
