A note from Natissia

Welcome to the 2025-2026 edition of Inspire Discovery ! Designed for Girl Scouts and their families, this annual publication showcases an incredible year ahead, packed with engaging and innovative programs running from October 2025 through May 2026. This year, we are proud to introduce more age-appropriate programming to meet the needs of today’s girls. In addition to our beloved traditions, we’ve expanded opportunities in academic enrichment, mental wellness, and workforce development—including coding workshops, financial literacy seminars, STEM career panels, and our new mental wellness patch program, which focuses on emotional well-being and resilience. I am especially proud of the launch of one of the most groundbreaking initiatives in our council’s history, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s AdvanceHER ™ Leadership Program. This initiative is designed to equip girls with the skills, confidence, and experiences to thrive in today’s world. To date, we have signed six renewable scholarship agreements, with awards ranging from $2,000 to $30,000 exclusively for Girl Scouts. I encourage you to turn to pg. 8 in this publication to learn more.

I also encourage you to visit our new Build-A-Bear Workshop located within our Council office. This inventive new space was created in partnership with Build-A-Bear to offer an immersive experience for the community while directly supporting local eastern Missouri girls. We remain committed to continually evaluate, innovate and launch new experiences for girls to keep their interest, promote curiosity and ultimately build a foundation for their future. Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the last year, reminding us of the importance of empowering the future generation of girls. Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri thrives because of our members’ passion and dedication. Thank you for being a part of this extraordinary movement. I continue to be inspired each day by the unwavering support of our families, volunteers, and the girls who are shaping a bright future.

Powered by Purpose, Built to Soar

We are so proud of Eastern Missouri Girl Scouts, Ruth and Aryah, for their awesome interview skills demonstrated on KSDK—5 On Your Side to spotlight April Showers! Grateful as always to our families, volunteers, and staff who are the force behind this impactful community effort!

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Community Troop Program team hosted their inaugural Sneaker Ball, an evening filled with more than 400 young girls singing, dancing, laughing, and playing. Kudos to the Community Troop Program, Girl Scouts Beyond Bars, staff, and volunteers that ensured a successful event!

I look forward to moments when there is a special visit from one of our GSEM troops participating in the Council tour program. Troop 492 took charge of my office last night and it filled me with joy, hope, and inspiration!

It was pure joy to celebrate the incredible young women who earned the prestigious Gold Award! Our future is bright because of trailblazers like these young ladies. Keep soaring higher—you inspire us all!

GSEM hosted the annual Dessert First event, showcasing our girls’ leadership skills on center stage. It was a night full of inspiration, highlighting excitement, impact, and our unwavering dedication to nurturing future leaders.

We also celebrated the grand opening of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Build-A-Bear Workshop with our community! This vibrant, hands-on space is a testament to what’s possible through vision and partnership.

STEM Pathways

GSEM establishes pioneering geospatial intelligence partnership with Gateway Global

Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri is excited to announce a new partnership with Gateway Global American Youth and Business Alliance Academies Inc., a nationally recognized St. Louis–based workforce development organization focused on preparing youth for high-demand career fields. The collaboration will expand access to hands-on STEM programming and introduce them to emerging opportunities in the geospatial and national security sectors.

Beginning this spring, middle and high school Girl Scouts in eastern Missouri will be able to participate in three new workforce-aligned camp experiences and career exploration day developed jointly by GSEM and Gateway Global. High school participants will engage in a Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) analysis program, learning how geospatial data informs national security, disaster response, and global decision-making. Middle school participants will study cartography and digital mapping, gaining foundational skills used across technology, transportation, and public safety industries. Programming will launch this spring, with additional opportunities planned as the partnership grows. Check out the first program offered, GeoGirls: Exploring Careers in Land, Sea, Sky and Space this March and register today!

Strengthening St. Louis’ Growing Geospatial Talent Pipeline Gateway Global has played a significant role in establishing St. Louis as a hub for geospatial talent, providing certifications, technical training, and career-aligned education for young people across the region. The organization partners with schools, community groups, and industry leaders to prepare students for careers in GEOINT, cybersecurity, and other advanced STEM disciplines. The partnership supports GSEM’s broader efforts to offer programming that reflects the region’s evolving economic landscape and prepares girls to step into high-growth career fields that are vital to the strength of our local and national economy. As St. Louis continues to invest in geospatial and national security innovation, both organizations view this collaboration as a timely and strategic opportunity to develop a future-ready talent pipeline and equip girls to become the women leaders who will drive these industries forward.

April Showers

Girl Scouts make a rainfall of positive change during April Showers!

Girl Scouts, their troop leaders, families and friends can help individuals and families in need by participating in Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s largest community service program, April Showers.

Since 1998, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri have collected more than 29 million personal care items. We are excited to be offering the community multiple ways to participate in April Showers. We will again be utilizing online registries in addition to the traditional in-person aspects of the program. Girl Scouts will place self-adhesive notes door-to-door throughout eastern Missouri the weekend of April 17-19, 2026. The note will encourage households to purchase items and reuse a bag or box of their own for pickup on April 25 or to donate through our online registries. All registered Girl Scouts are expected to participate in at least one April Showers weekend. On April 18, Girl Scouts can participate in Showering the Community. They will be stationed outside of local stores to encourage customers to purchase additional personal care items for donation. This is a great opportunity for Girl Scouts to see their impact on the community and practice their public speaking skills. District and Neighborhood Events scheduled for either weekend of April Showers should plan to incorporate April Showers as part of their event plans. Troops camping are expected to participate on the alternate weekend. All items donated through the online registries will be delivered to Camp Cedarledge. Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to assist with counting and sorting those items. More information is available in the Troop Participation Guide, which will be posted on our website in February.

All participants will be able to request a free event patch through their April Showers Participation Form. Patches will be ordered after the campaign concludes and will then be mailed out to troop leaders. We encourage families and friends to participate, too! April Showers is a great community service project for the whole family. Together, we can help empower girls to team up and make the world a better place.

Be on the lookout for more information from your Neighborhood April Showers Coordinator.

Community Service Partners

Community Service Partners are organizations looking for Girl Scouts to provide service to their organization. These partners will be listed in future publications and our website for easy access when troops are looking to do a service project.

Girl Scout Programs

STEM, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, and the Outdoors!

The Girl Scout Program: National Program Pillars The Girl Scouts four Program Pillars—STEM, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, and the Outdoors—form the foundation of the Girl Scout program and work together to build girls’ curiosity, kindness, and can do spirit. In fact, every aspect of our program, and every Girl Scout adventure, can be traced back to one of our four program pillars.

STEM Research shows that girls are keenly interested in STEM and excel at it. Yet, for a variety of reasons, girls often don’t pursue STEM careers. When Girl Scouts participate in focused STEM programs, they are more interested in STEM and careers in tech—including app development, robotics, coding, and cybersecurity.

Life Skills Girl Scout life skills programming includes a mix of practical skills, tools and activities that foster positive values in girls. Skills that help them discover that they have what it takes to raise their voices as community advocates, make smart decisions about their finances, and form strong, healthy relationships.

Entrepreneurship Girls are actively interested in becoming entrepreneurs, developing financially stable futures, and using their skills to make a big impact on the world. This pillar instills and nurtures an entrepreneurial mindset and fuels girls’ curiosity and confidence as they learn the essentials of running their own businesses.

Outdoors Studies show that girls today are not spending nearly enough time outdoors. Girl Scouts has been building girls’ outdoor confidence and skills for over one hundred years through a variety of outdoor adventures, an appreciation for nature and environmental stewardships.

Badges vs. Patches

For over a century, Girl Scouts have proudly worn distinctive uniforms that symbolize the high ideals for which the organization stands. Our uniforms have changed over the years, but they still show how much a Girl Scout has accomplished—and that they’re ready for what’s next. Girl Scouts at each level wear a tunic, sash, or vest to display official pins, badges, patches, and awards. There are many opportunities to earn badges, patches, and awards. But what’s the difference between a badge and a patch?

Badges • Created by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), with specific criteria to earn them involving skill-based accomplishments • Each Girl Scout level has its own unique badge shape • Badges go on the front of a tunic, vest or sash

Patches • Created by Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (GSEM), GSUSA, or licensed vendors • Given for any number of things, often commemorating fun events, experiences and patch programs • Patches go on the back of a tunic, vest or sash

Need help with where to place badges, pins, awards, and other insignia? Check out the Girl Scout uniform diagram, at girlscouts.org/uniforms .

Get ready—new badges and awards from GSUSA were released this summer! Turn the page to learn more about these new programs.
