Basic Water Rescue

Level: All

Course Description: Volunteers who complete this blended-learning course may serve as the secondary trained waterfront personnel required to assist in opening a lake at any of our camp properties and oversight of small craft activities. In this course you will learn how to prevent, recognize, and respond to many types of aquatic emergencies, as well as self-rescue and non-swimming rescues for aquatic emergencies. You will also be introduced to the GSEM Waterfront Manual, which outlines the waterfront Emergency Action Plan and waterfront policies and procedures specific to GSEM. The online portion must be completed in gsLearn before attending the in-person skills session. This course is renewable every three years. Course Registration: Register for the in-person portion of this course by opening the course in gsLearn, selecting Start This Course, and following the direct link to gsEvents for the desired date, or by searching in gsEvents. The accompanying online modules are available in gsLearn within the course itself.

Lifeguard In-Service Training

Level: All

Course Description: This refresher course on GSEM pool and lifeguarding policies is required annually for registered volunteers currently certified in American Red Cross lifeguarding who wish to lifeguard on GSEM properties.

Small Craft Safety: Canoeing Learning Path

Level: All

Learning Path Description: This learning path contains all the courses required to be trained in Small Craft Safety: Canoeing. Completion of this learning path allows you to be either the primary or secondary trained waterfront personnel required to open a lake or supervise troop canoe outings on flat water at GSEM camp lakes or off-property. Some courses in this learning path are blended learning and contain both online and in-person components, while other courses are online only. Each course within the learning path (online or in person) is individually renewable every three years.
