Basic Water Rescue

Level: All

Course Description: Volunteers who complete this blended-learning course may serve as the secondary trained waterfront personnel required to assist in opening a lake at any of our camp properties. In this course you will learn how to prevent, recognize, and respond to many types of aquatic emergencies, as well as self-rescue and non-swimming rescues for aquatic emergencies. You will also be introduced to the GSEM Waterfront Manual, which outlines the waterfront Emergency Action Plan and waterfront policies and procedures specific to GSEM. The online portion must be completed in gsLearn before attending the in-person skills session. This course is renewable every three years. Course Registration: Register for the in-person portion of this course by opening the course in gsLearn and following the direct link to gsEvents, or by searching in gsEvents. The accompanying online modules are available in gsLearn within the course itself.

Canoeing Games

Level: All

Course Description: Want to gain canoeing skills and have fun doing it? Join us at the lake to review basic canoeing skills and learn proper paddling technique and new paddling strokes. Build confidence for a more meaningful and enjoyable canoeing experience and build effective skills to pass the Small Craft Safety learning paths offered by GSEM. Girls 16 years of age and older may participate. No previous canoeing experience or Small Craft Safety training required. Completion of this course DOES NOT qualify participants to serve as trained waterfront personnel.
