Beautifying Henry Elementary School

Silver Award Team: Praneetha T. of Troop 2257

Issue: There is a shortage of plants and natural landscaping around Henry Elementary School, along with limited opportunities for students to engage in gardening. Root Cause: There are not many people available to upkeep the garden.

Project Details: Knowing the impact plants have on our

environment, Praneetha wanted to teach young kids about the importance of upkeeping green spaces and taking responsibility to earn her Girl Scout Silver Award. Praneetha worked to rehabilitate the garden at Henry Elementary School by planting several perennial plants. She then shared her project with the students to raise awareness and spread the joy of gardening. Praneetha assigned sections of the garden to Girl Scout troops attending the school who will continue to maintain the area.

Target Audience: The families and staff of Henry Elementary School.

Sustainability: Praneetha has assigned a portion of the gardens to younger Girl Scout troops who will attend the school and maintain the area.

Camp Fiddlecreek Guide

Issue: Young campers don’t know what to expect when they visit Camp Fiddlecreek for the first time. Root Cause: Many younger Girl Scouts don’t visit Camp Fiddlecreek because they and their troop leaders do not know what the camp has to offer. Target Audience: Younger Girl Scouts interested in camping, their leaders, and their parents. Sustainability: The website can be accessed online at any time, and the videos were uploaded and saved to YouTube for permanence.

Silver Award Team: Sammie A. of Troop 2401

Project Details: Camp Fiddlecreek, Girl Scouts of Eastern

Missouri’s smallest camp, doesn’t offer traditional overnight camp programs in the summer so many Girl Scouts have not visited before. Knowing this, Sammie wanted to create a sense of familiarity for younger Girl Scouts. To do this, Sammie created a website that shows guided walking tours of each unit at camp. It also shows photos of all the main amenities offered at Camp Fiddlecreek. Sammie also included tips about packing, food, and songs to be familiar with as well.
