GSEM Gold Award Project Catalog
Video Tours of Girl Scout Campsites
Gold Award Girl Scout: Lillian H., Troop 3281
Issue: Many Girl Scouts are unable to experience Girl Scout camp with their troops. Root Cause: It is difficult to find information online about the specific properties of each different campsite before troops go camping. Measurability: Lillian created a survey asking people to reflect on the information learned in the videos. Sustainability: A member of troop 3281, Genevieve R., will also ensure the videos are being shared continuously. Issue: There has been a disappearance of pollinators like bees and butterflies, and native plants education is uncommon. Root Cause: Factors such as global warming, pollutants, and less access to native plants and wildlife has caused this decrease. Measurability: Adrienne used a before and after survey quiz on the website to track people’s learning. Sustainability: The domain will host the website for three years, then the beneficiary will maintain the website.
Project Details: An avid camper, Lillian earned her Girl Scout Gold Award by creating, editing and publishing 24 detailed videos to support Girl Scout volunteers before they take their troops to a Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri camp property for the first time. Her video series detailed features of each campsite at Camp Tuckaho in Troy, MO, and Camp Fiddlecreek in Labadie, MO. Troop volunteers can use the videos to be more prepared and visualize the units before they camp at the properties with their Girl Scouts. Lillian collaborated with Girl Scout Camp Rangers to ensure she provided the most current information and important details.
Grow Your Own
Gold Award Girl Scout: Adrienne M., Troop 2815
Project Details: Concerned about the disappearance of pollinators, like bees and butterflies, Adrienne set out to create educational materials on native plants and species to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award. Adrienne designed a website for the Wildwood YMCA Therapy Sensory Garden, complete with a virtual tour of the garden and the importance of pollination. Adrienne also added links for people to create their own gardens at home to protect and attract pollinators. Once the website was complete, Adrienne created flyers and QR stickers linking to the website and placed them around the garden. Adrienne has provided training to the Wildwood YMCA so they can continue to update the website.
