A Love of Learning - Troop 9187 After the pandemic disrupted the school year, Kate decided to build an outdoor classroom to allow students to gather safely and continue learning. Kate began her Silver Award by researching the use, set up and expenses of outdoor classrooms. She then met with the school to discuss their needs and finalize her plans. Next, Kate led a team of volunteers to build six benches that convert into picnic tables. She also purchased Adirondack chairs. Finally, Kate arranged for the school to lay gravel in the dedicated space, and she finished setting up the outdoor classroom. Kate also created a slideshow and shared her presentation with other local schools to implement their outdoor classroom.

Providing Access to All - Lauren Sheets As a lifelong Girl Scout, Lauren understood the value of a good education and access to unlimited resources. So, to earn her Gold Award, Lauren decided to take action and help those around the world who did not have the same opportunities. Lauren began by collecting books to be donated to a small school in Burma. After the global outbreak of COVID-19, Lauren adjusted her plans by creating an online library for students to access until she could ship the books overseas. Lauren then passed on contacts and instructions to the community service club at her school, which will continue to donate books.

STEM Trailblazer - Sabrina Baggstrom To earn her Gold Award, Sabrina decided to pave the way for future female leaders in STEM to combat the lack of women in STEM-related careers. Sabrina researched, planned and executed two workshops for 35 elementary students to teach girls coding. During her two lessons, Sabrina taught computer programming and website design to 3rd-5th grade girls. Sabrina prepared the curriculum, created step-by-step worksheets and designed an example website to share with her students. After the workshops, Sabrina provided her materials with the Girls Engaged in Math and Science Club faculty to continue her lessons in the future.
