Fall 2019 Lead & Learn

Volunteer Spotlight

Alli Kleitz, District 5 Troop Leader and Council Trainer

My favorite Girl Scout resource is our experienced volunteers. I have been blessed to be mentored by wonderful women who have been there and done that. Their generosity in sharing stories and lessons learned is so heartwarming!

Are you a Go-Getter , Innovator , Risk-Taker or Leader ? Leader, but I would never have described myself as such before my experience as a Girl Scout volunteer. Just as I hope that I have been able to make a difference in the lives of the girls in my troops, schools, neighborhood and district, I give credit to my Girl Scout leaders (including my mom!) for helping me learn about, grow into and accept responsibility. My best advice for new troop leaders is to embrace it. There are so many wonderful aspects of being the girls’ leader—getting to know all of your daughter’s friends, watching them grow, making friends with their moms, and much, much more. This is truly an opportunity to be embraced, one that opens us to unlimited options for personal growth. What is your best advice for new troop leaders?

Can you share with us one of your cherished Girl Scout memories?

My absolute favorite moment in Girl Scouting was the 2016 Mother-Daughter Banquet. My troops worked together—for months and in absolute secrecy—to create for me a quilt with squares from each Girl Scout and mom in my troops over the past 15+ years. I was completely and totally surprised, and I was overwhelmed by the love that went into that quilt. I treasure it and have it displayed at home where I walk by it dozens of times each and every day.

When I am not volunteering for Girl Scouts, you can find me...

Enjoying time spent with my husband and children. A lot of our time together is devoted to our family business, but we also spend time volunteering at our parish and the kids’ schools. We’re kind of geeky though, so cutthroat board games are another favorite, but we’ve also been known to all be together in the same room just reading. Brett and I are so proud of our kids and the paths that they are carving for themselves in life, and whatever we can do to support them is at the top of our to-do list.
