April Showers

Girl Scouts, their troop leaders, families and friends can help those in need by participating in Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri's largest community service program, April Showers. Girl Scouts will place self-adhesive notes door-to-door throughout eastern Missouri the weekend of April 4-6. The notes will encourage households to purchase items and reuse a bag or box of their own for pick up on April 12 or to donate through our online registries. On April 5, Girl Scouts will be stationed outside of local stores to encourage customers to purchase additional personal care items for donation.

High Adventure

Build team spirit, improve communication, inspire ingenuity and develop resourcefulness by participating in a fun and challenging low and high ropes course. In this extraordinary, interactive learning environment, campers are faced with decision-making situations that can be stimulating both mentally and physically, as they navigate obstacles both on the ground and among the trees at the Outdoor Adventure Challenge Course (OAC). Individual Outdoor Adventure Challenge Dates: April 4-6 Check-In: 6 pm, Fri. Check-Out: 11 am, Sun. Location: Tuckaho 63379 Cost: $40 per camper When individual Girl Scouts participate, they complete fun initiative games and progress through a series of obstacles. This outdoor experience is the perfect program for individuals or smaller troops. Fee includes lodging, meals, program supplies and an Outdoor Adventure Challenge Course patch.

Spring Equestrian Programs Enjoy a unique horseback riding experience at Camp Cedarledge. Located in Pevely, our equestrian program is run by experienced Wranglers who help Girl Scouts of all levels discover the joy of horses.

Hoofprints Grades 6-12 Dates: April 26, May 3, May 10, May 17 Time: 3-4:30 pm Cost: $35 per Girl Scout Max Girl Scouts: 12

Girl Scouts will build and expand upon their equestrian skills with a horseback ride around the beautiful Camp Cedarledge arena. They will also learn the value of good horsemanship, discovering the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to form a harmonious relationship with a horse.

How Girl Scout Cadettes Make the World a Better Place— Get Started on a Silver Award Project This Spring! Girl Scout Silver Award

As Girl Scouts bridge into Cadettes, they can choose a small group or work independently on the Silver Award. They will find an issue they care about, create a solution to the root cause and then take action with their sustainable project! Once the Girl Scout Cadettes have completed their Silver Award Project, the leader will verify requirements have been met. Cadettes will submit the completion report to GSEM at girlscoutsem.org/highestawards . Upon completion, a recognition letter will be mailed to the Cadettes. How Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors Make the World a Better Place! Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts going for the Gold Award work with a project advisor, mentor and a team to make a sustainable impact in their community. They will create a solution that can be measured for success and share their results and plans with others to make a national/global link. They become role models and real-life heroes in their community.

Gold Award Training Girl Scouts are required to attend

training before getting started on their Gold Award. Adults are welcome to join.

When Girl Scouts earn the Gold Award, they are gifted a lifetime membership upon graduation, and become eligible for scholarship opportunities from both GSUSA and GSEM. Projects must be approved by the committee by March 1 in order to be recognized at that year’s Reflections Ceremony in June. Projects approved after this date will be recognized at the following year’s ceremony.

Junior, Cadette, Senior, Ambassador and Adult, Grades 4-12 Interested in pursuing a Highest Award but not sure how to get started? Join us for a night to learn all about the Highest Awards— Bronze, Silver and Gold! Location: Virtual Cadette and Adult, Grades 6-8 This course is for Girl Scout Cadettes who are interested in pursuing the Girl Scout Silver Award. This training will allow participants to learn the steps necessary to complete their Silver Award project and how to submit their completion form. Location: Virtual Cadette, Grades 6-8 Nutrition is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Food can help us sleep better, stress less, and feel our best. In this program, find out how to eat to nourish our bodies and live our best lives. Girl Scouts will receive a box of supplies mailed to their house prior to the program. Cadettes earn their Eating for You Badge. Location: Virtual Junior and Cadette, Grades 4-8 Everyone has the ability to start their own business, and during this program, we’ll think of fun business solutions to everyday problems. The program happens over two sessions. The Pitch Challenge is the second session where Girl Scouts will practice talking about (or pitching) their business ideas. Girl Scouts will receive a box of supplies mailed to their house prior to the program. Cadettes earn their Business Creator Badge. Location: Virtual (2/13); Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 (3/1) Senior and Ambassador, Grades 9-12 During this Journey, Girl Scouts will have a chance to be an advocate with the power to start the first flutter of real and lasting change. While creating their own butterfly effect, Girl Scouts will learn skills such as networking, planning, and speaking up for what they believe. Seniors earn their GIRLtopia Journey Award. Ambassadors earn their Your Voice, Your World Journey Award. Girl Scouts will kayak underground at Crystal City Cave! The water is crystal clear, allowing kayakers to see remnants of mining. This extended training provides time to meet the Gold Award Committee, Gold Award alum and time to brainstorm project ideas. Lunch is provided. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Cadette, Grades 6-8 Cadettes will learn how to write a computer program and share a positive message. Cadettes earn their Cadette Coding Basics Badge. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Cadette, Senior and Ambassador, Grades 6-12 Each February, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides across 150 countries celebrate World Thinking Day. This year’s theme is “Our Story,” the history of Girl Scouts around the world and all that we have accomplished, and how we can continue our amazing traditions today! We will delve into the past, present, and future of our organization both at home and around the world. Girl Scouts receive a World Thinking Day Patch. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Daisy-Ambassador, Grades K-12 The Women’s History Month fun patch program, in partnership with AAWU (St. Louis Branch), is designed to help Girl Scouts honor significant historical women, learn about important milestones in women’s social and legal progress and find inspiration in the many ways women continue to influence the world. Recordings will be shared with all participants following the program. Girl Scouts will receive supplies mailed to their house prior to the program. Senior, Ambassador and Adult, Grades 9-12 This course is for Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors who are interested in pursuing the Girl Scout Gold Award. Girl Scouts going for the Gold Award are required to attend this training; they will learn the seven steps necessary to complete their Gold Award project and how to submit their proposal on GoGold. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Cadette, Senior and Ambassador, Grades 6-12 Girl Scouts will take part in Girl Scout appropriate activities modeled after The Amazing Race . Girl Scouts will work together in small teams to solve clues, cross rugged terrain, interact with new people, and try to finish the race before the other groups. They do not need to have any previous experience, although this will be an active program so proper attire and being able to handle the outdoors is needed. Lunch and snacks are provided. Location: Camp Cedarledge, 63070 Cadette, Grades 6-8 As a Girl Scout aide, they will gain experience by sharing skills, testing knowledge, and trying out new leadership roles. Girl Scouts will become a certified Program Aide and will help facilitate the She and Me and a Cup of Tea Program. This program has two required sessions, and Girl Scouts will be required to volunteer for the She and Me and a Cup of Tea event on April 27. Dinner is provided for both training sessions. Girl Scouts earn their Program Aide Award. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Senior and Ambassador, Grades 9-12 Get ready to rock the ACT! In this engaging workshop, we will be joined by a skilled ACT tutor, with a focus on understanding every single aspect of a particular question, as well as giving helpful advice on what to expect on test day. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Senior and Ambassador, Grades 9-12 Join us for a fun night and compete in the Girl Scout games! We’ll have a special ceremony and then jump into a series of challenges and games to determine who our victor is! After our game, we’ll settle in to watch The Hunger Games and spend the night with our Girl Scout friends. Girl Scouts receive a fun patch. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Senior and Ambassador, Grades 9-12 This interactive workshop is designed for high school students eager to develop essential professional soft skills that will set them apart in their future careers. In this hands-on session, students will learn practical strategies for interviewing, crafting an impressive resume, networking effectively, and presenting themselves confidently in professional settings. Whether preparing for a first job, an internship, or college interviews, this session will provide the tools and strategies needed to succeed. Girl Scouts receive a fun patch. Daisy-Ambassador & Adults, Grades K-12 Join us for an exciting day trip to visit the state capitol in Jefferson City. Participants will tour the historic capitol building, see how state legislature works, and immerse themselves in the history of the Show-Me State. Troops participating with five or more Girl Scouts are required to provide two adults. All individual Girl Scouts must have a registered adult attend with them. All participants will arrive by bus transportation together, wearing special event shirts that will be provided along with a snack! Girl Scouts complete multiple steps of the Democracy Badge. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Cadette and Adult, Grades 6-8 This course is for Girl Scout Cadettes who are interested in pursuing the Girl Scout Silver Award. This training will allow participants to learn the steps necessary to complete their Silver Award project and how to submit their completion form. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Cadette, Senior and Ambassador, Grades 6-12 Girl Scouts will climb in trees at night under a full moon! Tree climbing is facilitated by certified instructors with safety equipment like harnesses and ropes. Girl Scouts do not need to have experience climbing, just a desire to try new things and comfortable spending time outdoors. Lodging (tents provided by Council) and breakfast will be provided. Transportation is not provided. Location: TBD Senior and Ambassador, Grades 9-12 April is Global Citizen Science Month! In this virtual program, Girl Scouts will join the global movement to make a positive impact on the world through scientific research. They will practice making observations and collecting data, and contribute to a citizen science project found on SciStarter. Participants must attend both sessions. Seniors and Ambassadors complete Part 1 of the Think Like a Citizen Scientist Badge. Location: Virtual Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador, Grades 4-12 Girl Scouts will consult with an expert from Wild Seeds Field Museum and learn about different mushrooms that are edible. We will only identify (not pick) mushrooms, but Girl Scouts will be able to try provided samples. Girl Scouts will also learn about ethics and mindfulness regarding edible and non-edible plants and our natural landscape. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Senior and Ambassador, Grades 9-12 This workshop is for current 9th-12th grade Girl Scouts who are interested in beginning their Gold Award. During this inaugural event, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri will bring the community together to honor the past while embracing the present and future of cultural change and enrichment. Location: Girl Scout Service Center, 63146 Cadette, Grades 6-8 Cadettes will learn how citizen scientists make observations, collect data, and help scientists conduct scientific research. Then, they’ll apply what they’ve learned by surveying and identifying the living things that call camp home—including flowers, birds, reptiles, mammals and more! Girl Scouts will record their findings and share their observations with researchers and scientists using iNaturalist as part of the City Nature Challenge. Cadettes complete Part 1 of the Think Like a Citizen Scientist Badge. Location: Babler Memorial State Park, 63005 Senior, Ambassador and Adult, Grades 9-12 This program is an open discussion for Girl Scouts pursuing the Gold Award, the highest leadership award a Senior or Ambassador Girl Scout can earn. We will answer questions about requirements, ideas, proposals and components. We can also assist Girl Scouts creating their account on the GoGold website. Gold Award training is not a prerequisite but can be beneficial before attending the open discussion. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Cadette, Senior and Ambassador, Grades 6-12 Mental health is just another part of our health overall, and one that has been ignored or forgotten for many years. Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month with a sleepover where we will explore the world of mental health and how we can be healthier and happier in our everyday lives. Girl Scouts receive a fun patch. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Cadette, Grades 6-8 Babysitting is a great way to build responsibility and caregiving skills (and earn some extra money!). We’ll cover how to start a babysitting business, professionalism, child development, and complete a first aid course including coverage of CPR skills (Cadettes will not be CPR Certified in this program). Participants will receive a certificate of completion for the course. Cadettes earn their Babysitter and Cadette First Aid Badges. Location: Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center, 63146 Senior and Ambassador, Grades 9-12 Simplify the post-high school preparation process by tackling it step-by-step, and get ready for the next amazing chapter! This program includes an overview of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri ADVANCE HER © Leadership movement which provides foundational, innovative and relevant post-secondary opportunities that complement the mission of Girl Scouting.
