Volunteer Speak

If you’re ready to engage with your community, grow your skillsets, and show Girl Scouts what it means to be capable—you’re ready to be a volunteer! There’s no one type of volunteer. If you believe that Girl Scouts can change the world, you belong here. All work and schedules can be accommodated. Here are some ways to get involved. Long-Term: • Troop leaders engage regularly with their Girl Scouts and guide them through activities, like earning badges, exploring the outdoors or running their own business through Treats & Reads and the Girl Scout Cookie Program. • Troop Support Volunteers assist with transportation, activity planning, snacks, money management or other tasks to keep the troop running week to week. • Service Unit Volunteers are the network of support throughout the community. They empower troop leaders and volunteers to be the role model Girl Scouts need and connect them with the resources for unforgettable troop experiences.

Whether you have time for a one-time event or just a few hours a month—we have a volunteer role for you! Short-term volunteer opportunities are always available throughout the year. Short-Term (Episodic): • April Showers Volunteers assist with GSEM’s largest community service program that provides personal care items to those in need. • Camp Activity Volunteers are skilled individuals who can assist with running activities for girls at our three camps. • Community Troop Program Volunteers assist GSEM staff during troop meetings. Meetings take place after school hours at one of our school partners. Community troops provide the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in a troop setting to girls who otherwise would not have the opportunity. • Program/Event Volunteers assist with programs and events throughout the year at our Berges Family Girl Scout Program Center and other locations throughout St. Louis and surrounding areas.

Recruiting with Daisy Drop Box and Brownie Bundle Our complimentary Daisy Drop Box and Brownie Bundle programs provide progressive leader support from Kindergarten Daisies through 3rd grade Brownies. When troop leaders register for their level of program, they are mailed boxes each month at no charge. These include step-by-step meeting instructions and all the activity supplies to confidently lead badge earning meetings through the year!

We offer two great resources to help educate new volunteers about Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri’s box programs that you can use this recruitment season. This year, we are switching out our sample boxes with a stand-up poster for open houses and recruitment tables. It provides all the essential details about the program and a QR code linked to a video that unboxes what troop leaders will receive. We also put together a brand-new resource that can be given to troop leaders at recruitment nights once they have volunteered to lead the Daisy or Brownie troop. This guide walks them through next steps and even provides a handy checklist on the back.
