Extreme Adventures— Backpacking Trip Oct. 12-13 8 am, Sat.-6 pm, Sun.
On this Extreme Adventure, Girl Scouts will hike into the woods of Cuivre River State Park with everything they'll need in their backpack for an overnight trip! Once they've reached the campsite, they will set up camp, and the following morning they'll hike back out of the woods. Backpacking is a challenging and rewarding activity, where Girl Scouts will bond with new friends, see new things along the trail, and test out their grit. We will hike approximately 14 miles total. Girl Scouts should have a good pair of hiking boots and have hiking experience. We will have an in-person prep meeting on Wednesday, October 2 to make sure everyone is prepared for this adventure. Girl Scouts should use a large backpack designed for backpacking or a large, sturdy backpack (no duffel bags, suitcases, etc). Food, communal camping equipment, and tents are provided by council. Girl Scouts should provide their own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and other personal camping equipment. If they don't have any of the required equipment, they can borrow it from council. The Extreme Adventures programs offers 6-12 grade Girl Scouts unique and "extreme" outdoor related opportunities—see pg. 8 for more information about the program.
