2023 Girl Scout Impact Report

Creating a Brighter Future for All The Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards are the highest honors Girl Scouts can earn. By leading their communities and working on issues they care about, our highest awardees are making their world and futures brighter.

Bronze Award: Craft/Activity Kits for Children in the Hospital Troop 3756 decided to provide a little bit of fun and creativity for kids during their hospital stay. The girls researched kit ideas, made a list of supplies needed and spent two extra meetings a month prepping bags. Each kit included instructions and all the materials needed to complete the craft or play the game. Some examples of the kits made were mini eraser tic-tac-toe, craft stick airplanes, and yarn turtles. The Girl Scouts made over 1,200 kits and delivered them to Mercy Hospital.

Silver Award: Helping Kids and Teens with Mental Health Illness During the COVID-19 pandemic, the mental health of children and teens was impacted due to at-home isolation and little socialization. To earn the Silver Award, Girl Scout Cadettes Azaria Spearman and Mikayla Woods created a website that gave access to different resources to ease their stress and anxiety. Their project aimed to educate middle school teens on coping techniques and activities that can give them control over their mind, body, and soul and positively impact their mental health.

In 2023, Girl Scouts volunteered more than 18,000 hours in their communities while earning their Highest Awards.

Gold Award: Kid’s Playroom Makeover After learning about the need to renovate the children’s playroom at The Women’s Safe House, Kameryn Arnold, a 2023 graduate of St. Charles West High School, decided to create a positive and safe environment for families experiencing abuse. Kameryn led a team of volunteers to clean the room, paint the walls, build shelves and replace the ceiling light fixtures. Afterward, Kameryn stocked the playroom with books and educational toys for the residents and presented the new space to The Women’s Safe House executives. Kameryn’s remolded playroom saw an increase in children using the space. The Women’s Safe House staff will continue to ensure the playroom stays clean and well-maintained in the future.
