Offered to: Daisy | Brownie | Junior | Cadette | Senior | Ambassador Grades K-12 Join the Girl Scouts to experience the 2024 total solar eclipse! We will travel by bus to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where NASA and SIU are hosting an eclipse festival. The festival will include NASA exhibits and speakers, an Astronomy Science and Technology Expo, an art and craft fair, and expert commentary during the eclipse. The SIU Carbondale campus will experience 4 minutes and 9 seconds of totality as the region is cast into darkness in the middle of the day. Be prepared to witness the full range of total solar eclipse phenomenon and have your senses and emotions overwhelmed by the unexplainable experience of standing in the shadow of the Moon as you watch the Sun disappear. Girl Scouts will earn their Space Science badge. Bus transportation, a ticket to the festival, eclipse glasses and a badge are included. An adult must register with each girl or troop. This course is for Girl Scout Juniors who are interested in pursuing the Girl Scout Bronze Award. Parents, caregivers and troop leaders are welcome to attend as well. This training will allow girls to learn the steps necessary to complete their Bronze Award project and how to submit their proposal. Location: Virtual This course is for Girl Scout Cadettes who are interested in pursuing the Girl Scout Silver Award. Parents, caregivers and troop leaders are welcome to attend as well. This training will allow girls to learn the steps necessary to complete their Silver Award project and how to submit their proposal. Location: Virtual Grades K-12 Join the Girl Scout Tree Promise movement and plant some trees with Forest ReLeaf! We'll start off by hearing about tree care from Forest ReLeaf employees, then head over to our planting location. Be prepared to work hard, sweat a little, dig holes, and get trees into the ground. All equipment will be provided for you. All Daisy and Brownie participants must sign up with an adult. Juniors - Ambassadors may sign up by themselves.
